Energy balance analyses during Standard Penetration Tests in a virtual calibration chamber

چکیده
The Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is the most popular example of dynamic probing, a large category soil testing techniques. Understanding and interpretation these tests hampered by difficulties reproducing them under controlled laboratory conditions. virtual calibration chamber technique, based on Discrete Element Method (DEM), may supplement or substitute this complex experimentation. In paper SPT in sand are analyzed considering energy transfer involved. Energy balances written for penetrating rod material chamber. All terms computed number cases which main variables controlling test response field -initial density stress level- systematically varied. analysis confirms previous observations indicating that, when an energy-based used, provides value equivalent penetration resistance that same would be obtained with static cone test. analyses also provide unequivocal explanation observation: although impacting shows complicated dynamics quasi-static.

evaluation of cone penetration resistance in loose silty sand using calibration chamber
this paper highlights the effect of silt content on cone tip resistance in loose silty sand. in this study, twenty-seven cone penetration tests are performed in saturated silty sand samples with several different silt contents ranging from 10 to 50 percent. the samples are consolidated at three overburden stresses including 100, 200 and 300 kpa. it is shown that, as the silt content increases, ...
متن کاملEnergy Efficiency Analyses of Toolpaths in a Pocket Milling Process
This paper presents an approach to analytically determine the most energy efficient toolpath strategy in mechanical machining. This was achieved by evaluating the electrical energy requirement of the NC codes generated for the zag, zigzag, and rectangular contour toolpath strategies. The analytical method was validated by performing pocket milling on AISI 1018 steel with the considered toolpath...
متن کاملAnatomical Calibration through Post-Processing of Standard Motion Tests Data
The inertial measurement unit is popularly used as a wearable and flexible tool for human motion tracking. Sensor-to-body alignment, or anatomical calibration (AC), is fundamental to improve accuracy and reliability. Current AC methods either require extra movements or are limited to specific joints. In this research, the authors propose a novel method to achieve AC from standard motion tests (...
متن کاملAnalyses of Adsorption Kinetics Using a Stirred-Flow Chamber: I. Theory and Critical Tests
The study of ion-exchange kinetics on soils and soil constituents has attracted much interest throughout the last decade. The introduction of a stirred-flow method to study these reactions, as well as other adsorption-desorption phenomena, has stimulated this interest. However, the manner in which rate data are interpreted using this technique and other flow methods has been questioned. Accordi...
متن کاملMpm Validation: Sphere-cylinder Impact Tests: Energy Balance
This report discusses the energy balance results observed during the simulation of the impact of an aluminum sphere on an aluminum plate supported by a hollow aluminum cylinder. Due to the high impact velocity, there is considerable ringing of the cylinder which causes the sum of the mechanical energies to increase. An optimal set of input parameters is identified that minimizes ringing and red...
